Pat Rosney’s The Other Reg clocked the fastest trial at Shawfield on Saturday night with a run of 29.11 for the RPGTV Scottish Derby course.

Other trials on the night included: 29.16 Forest West, 29.21 Bull Run Button, 29.27 Dorotas Vic, 29.33 Ashbank Christy, 29.38 Farloe Falcon, 29.52 Azzuri Genesis, 29.53 Droopys Scolari, 29.65 Dunluce Road, 29.68 Rackethall Jess, 29.69 Carn Brea and Newinn Shadow. Going for all trials: +10.

Pat Rosney said: “It is the third consecutive Saturday that he has done the fastest trial. I am sure some of the others are having their first look at the track but I am quite happy with our lad. He is definitely a stronger dog than last year when he won the puppy final (28.91). He hasn’t raced since going unbeaten through the Laurels last year and I am very happy with his fitness and condition.

“I think he gets a bit overlooked in the press coverage, which doesn’t really bother me. The way I look at it, I have been looking to buy a top class dog to contest the English and Scottish Derbys and if Reg wasn’s in the kennel, he would definitely be on my shortlist.”

Calico Ranger – third in the puppy final last year – was Friday’s quickest trialist with a flying 28.89 run (all trials +20). Others: 28.93 Maidreads Spring, 29.18 Lightfoot King, 29.25 Cooneen Jack, 29.29 Gazilly Shay, 29.34 Kranky Mark, 29.38 Barefoot Painter, 29.40 Risky Dreamer, 29.51 Bramble Rafa, 29.56 Calico Blackjack, 29.61 Donation, 29.63 Dromzone.

Mark Wallis’ Scottish Derby bound trio all trialled at Towcester on Saturday night. Bruisers Bullet clocked 27.88 for the 480m course. Bombers Bullet and Black Farren recorded 29.07 and 29.51 respectively over the 500m course. PJ Fahy’s Tyrur Harold clocked 28.14, also over the 480m course. Going allowance for all trials was ‘normal’.

The RPGTV Scottish Derby closes for entries at Noon on Monday with the first round due to take place next Saturday.
