NOTTINGHAM previewed by Mark Pierrepont
Tonight’s card at Nottingham should have been filled with greyhounds targeting the now postponed Derby. Unfortunately due to events beyond the control of us all , that’s simply not the case.
Tonight’s card, though not containing the class that we’d have hoped is a decent graded card all the same.  Lynn Cook’s early paced pup Burghead Franby (T6) (NEXT BEST) ran well on debut last week , taking up the running off the second bend he showed more than enough to suggest that he wouldn’t be long in winning in this grade of A3.  ‘Franby’ can ping out and make every post a winning one.
Barry Denby’s Talbots Inch is an interesting newcomer to the track.  He has a 29.37 (-30) victory on his card at Kilkenny , an excellent run for a young pup.  Though beaten behind the selection last week , he had a troubled passage throughout and will give the selection plenty to think about if he’s not immediately on his toes.
Anneleise Thompson’s Redeye Melody (T6) (NAP) is yet to win in 7 starts here in the UK and finished second on her sole two Irish starts around Cork.  ‘Melody’ is a bitch with pace though as was highlighted recently with her 30.08 (+20) solo trial.  Her recent visits to Harlow , albeit unsuccessful , can only be taken as a positive and I fancy they’ll have awakened ‘Melody’ well enough to see her gain her first career success.
The A3 at 8.37pm isn’t likely to be one for the purists but Jason Grays Gulleen Rosie (T4) isn’t likely to be far away.  ‘Rosie’ is likely to lead up but there is no doubting that she likes to make races ‘interesting’.  With one or two strong runners in behind this race isn’t for the feint of heart but ‘Rosie’ can put her head in front where it matters.
YARMOUTH previewed by Liam Aspin
My aim is to pick a NAP and NB on the Yarmouth cards for a Monday and Thursday and endeavour to find the trainers thoughts too!
I was at Monmore on Saturday night and that gave me a chance to catch the thoughts of John Mullins on one of his runners, Film Star. The June 18’ son of Makeshift x Bramble Swift is having just his 3rd start for John and looks to have a great make up on the outside of a slow starting Baunfaun Prince in trap 5. Film Star won last week in 28.40 and is certainly going forward.
John said “He hasn’t quite hit the heights we think or hoped he’d be capable of yet. He was initially bought with the intentions of running in the Monmore Puppy Derby, but he hasn’t gone onto that level yet but he’s going the right way”
David Carter  has 5 runners on the card and for me the most exciting is probably Barrack Brave, the September 17’ son of Kinloch Brae and Rosiemac looks on a nice mark after running A2/S2 in Tralee and he’s only having his 3rd race in England.
David said, “He’s got the potential to be a nice dog, we hope. He suffered a bit when he came over with illness but he’s over that now and hopefully he’ll go forward and be a useful dog. We would of preferred him to be more drawn in the middle but that’s racing, you are where you’re put!”
When asked about a few off his other runners on the card, he was sure to mention grand old veteran Blackhill Jet (Droopys Scholari x Whiteys Mystic), who’s now a 5 year old!
David said, “He’s an old dog but very seldom does he run a bad race. He’s been 2nd and 3rd on his last 2 starts and I’m not saying he’ll definitely win but he’s always there with a chance.”
It’s very rare that I would NAP a dog in an A8 race anywhere, but for Barrack Brave in the 8.44, I’ve made an exception. He looks to me as if he’ll go through the grades nicely in the coming weeks and I hope he gets his maiden English win tonight!
My NB on the card goes to Film Star in the 8:29. He’s in top hands with John Mullins and clearly he’s expected to go onto better things. Hopefully tonight he’ll take another step forward.”
