Greyhound racing and trials will remain suspended in the UK tomorrow (Saturday) as a mark of respect following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, the GBGB announced today.

Fixtures for Friday were cancelled immediately after the announcement that Her Majesty had passed.

GBGB CEO Mark Bird said:

“In line with colleagues from other sports, the Board wished to show the greyhound community’s respect for The Queen. We are grateful that those tracks that were supposed to race tomorrow have now made the decisions not to race or trial.”

Racing will recommence again on Sunday, with meetings at Sunderland, Doncaster and Pelaw on Sunday morning and Swindon in the evening when it holds the second round of the Produce Stakes. The sport is expected to resume a full service again from Monday.

Star report: Yarmouth have stated that the Bresbet East Anglian Derby semi finals have been put back to Wednesday, while we have received confirmation that Perry Barr’s Birmingham Cup/St Leger meeting will resume next Thursday.
