Skip Mayo, who began her career running in A7 at Crayford returned to win the £7,500 Ladbrokes.com Guys And Dolls Final on Saturday night.

The 20-1 outsider who had won only four of her 36 races, produced the performance of her career to produce a thoroughly respectable 23.11 winning time. Click on the result to watch the video replay.

Winning trainer Gemma Davidson said: “We knew we were up against it because of the quality of Patrick’s dogs, so we were more hopeful, than confident. But we know she hasn’t won apart from trap six and when she won previously, it was on a wet track so that went in our favour. We also knew, that she would be able to come from behind, even if she didn’t lead.

“She was bought at Crayford sales for around £4,000 and she hurt herself soon afterwards. We were unable to track down what the injury was and it looked as though her career was over before it started. When we did eventually get her back she was knocked over in her first race at Central Park. She wasn’t a particularly lucky bitch so its nice to see it turned around.”

It is the second victory in the race for the kennel, father John won it with Letmekissya in 2006.

Gemma said: “That was a year or so before we lost dad, so it was nice to win it myself. It was like coming home. Dave Staddon and Trevor Cooper have been in the kennel for many years, and had dogs with my dad, so it lovely to win it for them.”
