(The following story has been updated following an error which stated that Baroness Bullet had been in contention prior to the no race. It was in fact Mark Wallis’ other runner Ninja Penny, who had Swift Nadia’s closest contender. Apologies to connections)
A fox is responsible for the voiding of the second heat of the Coral Ladies Trophy at Hove on Thursday night.
Racing manager Jeff Piper said: “Dave Lee’s bitch (Swift Nadia) was well clear going into the third bend when her ears went up and she checked to the outside. We couldn’t see why she had done it. But then after we went back to the slow motion replays, we spotted that a fox ran across the track and jumped the outside fence.
“Given it was outside interference, we were left with no option other than to void the race. There is an option to re-run the race on Saturday, though understandably given the weather, connections aren’t keen. As it stands, it appears that connections for the three that were in the lead, Swift Nadia, Cleaning Doctor and Ninja Penny, seem to want to go through to the final. We should confirm shortly.”
The first heat saw Willmount Manor beat Maysthistlecrack and Rosegarland Mojo by a length and a quarter and four in 30.15 (-10).
Hove’s most consistent greyhound Droopys Perfect (Laughil Blake-Droopys Posh, Apr 16) extended his winning sequence to six (9/11) when taking the fastest qualifier of the Coral Sprint in 16.30 (-05). Second and third were Claires Turbo (a length and a half) and Ballinclare Solo (hd).
The second qualifier went to Getrid Benny (Droopys Jet-Rosies Champ, Aug 16) in 16.46 (-05). Droopys Max and Forest Whiskey (2l, 2l), qualified.
