Queen Jessiej stayed behind with the Nottingham vet Gabriel Freiria and is due to be operated on, probably today.
The Produce Stakes winner and Oaks runner-up was well clear in the first round heat of the British Breeders Stakes when breaking down between the third and fourth bend.
Assistant trainer Rab McNair said: “The vet put the hock back into place and took her home with him. I don’t know whether he operated on her last night, if not, it will be today. Peter Harnden is going to pick her up for me and I will bring her back home on Thursday.
“The vet said that he thought she might return to racing, but it won’t be happening. We won’t risk it. She will stay at home with us and hopefully have a litter or two. She was a really great bitch, and was our standard bearer. I was so looking forward to running her in the Derby at Towcester.
“Instead she will be joining our list of brood bitches. I think we will soon have more than the Dunphys.”
The McNairs have four runners going into the semi finals and will be hoping for a change of luck at Colwick Park. In addition to Jessiej, her half brothers ‘Kings’ Lennon, Dylan and Sheeran all broke hocks on the track while their sister Queen Beyonce ripped away a main tendon in the semi finals of the Derby.
