“It’s just way too close to call. It is a shame that there are no wide seeds in there, the way the draw has worked out, anything could win it.”
Monmore racing manager Tony Williamson was reflecting on a mixed afternoon for punters with two of the three Ladbrokes Puppy Derby finals going to the favourites but the shortest priced runner of all – Droopys Verve (1-6f) was turned over by a 25-1 shot.
Williamson said: “The favourite ran well but so did the Henlow dog who just refused to give in. There was also another good run from Rising Brandy who has 28.01 and 28.03 calculated times in the competition.”
Sponsors bet: 1-1 Droopys Verve, 5-2 Rising Brandy, 6-1 Brinkleys Poet, 7-1 Bubbly Roger, 12-1 Brinkleys Twirl, 16-1 Ruthless Robbie
Trainers are reminded that all supporting opens for next Wednesday’s afternoon final all close at 11am on Monday. Each race offers a £300 winner’s prize.
