It was a night of shocks in Friday’s Coral Puppy Cup heats. Of the top five in the ante post betting, only one won and one other made it through to the semi finals. Yet four of the eight 100-1 chances and both 150-1 shots made it through to next Friday.

Quickest on the night – with 5-2 ante post favourite Droopys Doughnut eight lengths adrift in her wing mirrors – was Angela Harrison’s Coolavanny Mercy with a 23.50 run.It was the fastest run over course and distance in more than five years.

Patrick Browne’s Brinkleys Ginger was second quickest on the clock and the only winning favourite when leading home Dick Turpin (125-1 ante post) by almost seven lengths in 23.52.
