Perry Barr owner and form student Paul Gebhard previews tonight’s Puppy Classic runners at Nottingham
ANYNAMEWILLDO is he a bit of a “thinker?” I genuinely can’t make my mind up, watching live when he finished second to Brookside Richie I thought he was, but I’m not 100% sure, obviously he can run, has had 17 races.
ARTHUR PUMPKIN very little to go on, for a November 19 she has already been in at the deep end (raced against such as Droopys Aoife and Ballymac Intent), weighs around 25.5 kilos.
SWING BRIDGE obviously a nice pup but does seem to find trouble, granted a clear run he’d go well in this.
BAGGIOS MAID seems to lack a yard of pace to the corner, can only improve but perhaps this event has come a bit too soon for her.
TEE CEES PUMA as a 2020 pup this may have come just that bit too soon for him too.
CHELMS GETAWAY trouble prone so far, plenty to do on paper but could have a nice draw in this particular race.
Selections 1) Anynamewilldo 2) Swing Bridge 3) Chelms Getaway
DONISHALL BRAE possibly lacks a yard of pace to the first bend, just the two races on his card.
KILARA RHYTHM, yet to get a clear run, won 1 from 3, just a 2020 pup that weighs in at 34 kilos so will improve for sure.
BAGGIOS TURBO big 36 kilo pup, difficult to assess but certainly has more to offer, half brother to some smart ones.
OLD FORT TOKYO has good early speed but will the 500 play to her strengths? (half sister to Bubbly Cristal).
TRUMPS BENEFIT a very strong running type but actually not overly short of early, if his trapping improves he could be a star, already won the puppy competition at Hove, definitely a contender for outright honours.
ITSUR BEST MATE has good early space but not certain that the 500 trip is ideal for him either (his full sister goes from trap 4).
Selections 1) Trumps Benefit 2) Kilara Rhythm 3) Old Fort Tokyo
MAGNA BLACKMORE good early pace at her home track but didn’t show it here last week and probably has a bit too find.
DRAHBEG DANDY tired a bit last week but I don’t think the 500 should be an issue, struggled to get races (entered for two puppy races that didn’t fill and then wasn’t accepted for Towcester). Has decent early pace and trap 2 should suit.
FARNEYS TIGER an April 2020 pup, had just the one race, weighs in at 36 kilos, nigh on impossible to accurately assess at this stage (half brother to two high class stayers).
BUBBLY APACHE gave a classy all round performance last week (trapping, pace, bend running), does lack experience but that might not matter if he keeps on bombing out; the one to beat tonight and a strong contender outright.
RIDGEDALE CAROL, five races, yet to finish in the first two, recently had a season, will almost certainly be better later in the year.
BLUSHING GROOM probably has a bit on his plate here and starting slowly makes it even harder.
Selections 1) Bubbly Apache 2) Drahbeg Dandy 3) Farneys Tiger
RIGHT JOE smart early pace (18.12 intro and 5.05 sectional), suspicion at least at this stage that the 500 trip might just stretch him a bit.
COOLAVANNY AUNTY a pacey bitch, won 6 from 12 (5 opens and an A1) she dipped under 30 seconds in her trial here.
SKYWALKER STAN did a flashy 480 trial and is only a December 19, obviously potentially useful and won the Cat 2 Arc Puppy Cup at Sunderland, at this stage difficult to say how good he could be and to know if the 500 will suit.
Vacant
LUNA JEZABELLE did a nice intro over the 500 (30.29) yet another that’s hard to assess at this moment in time (found trouble in running in 5 of her 6 races).
JUMEIRAH CAESAR a strong running type who appears to have a good draw tonight.
Selections 1) Coolavanny Aunty 2) Skywalker Stan 3) Luna Jezabelle
LOCKED DOWN terrific strike rate so far, big 35 kilo pup, but needs to improve to be a contender for the competition outright (obviously that could easily happen).
EASY WARRIOR a pup that’s been in at the deep end lately, even so he does seem to have gone off the boil a tad recently.
SHARKY JEZABELLE missed out last week but three from four so far including an eye catching 28.88 over the 480, has excellent early pace too.
BAGGIOS CHAMP yes he was a surprise winner last week but he could easily have plenty of improvement in the locker (a half-brother to some very smart dogs).
CLERIHAN AXLE difficult to evaluate for sure but even so probably needs to find a fair bit.
RIDGEDALE BLAKE possesses good early but as of now the 500 seems to be every inch as far as he wants to go, well drawn tonight though.
Selections 1) Baggios Champ 2) Sharky Jezabelle 3) Locked Down
FARNEYS LARK already been tried over 6 bends, has experience in his favour, but probably just lacks that little touch of class over 4 bends against the speedier types.
RAVENSHILL ANNA on all known form would appear to have a bit to find.
BELLMORE SALLY has a touch of class, talented at 4 bends but further down the line could be high class over 6 bends.
MICKYS BARRETT yet to race, just a March 2020, previously known as “The Other Charly” he’s a half-brother to Lenson Doolin; surely this competition has come that bit too soon?
DOGHOUSE DAZZLER I fancied this dog last week, hampering himself with tardy trapping, not the biggest but clearly he can run (litter brother to Brookside Richie)
UCANNOTBESERIOUS already has 22 races under his belt, however, he still seems to be getting quicker and stronger, on paper he has a lovely draw tonight.
Selections 1) Bellmore Sally 2) Ucannotbeserious 3) Farneys Lark
