Jimmy Fenwick is more than satisfied with the 15 matings carried out by Ice On Fire since his retirement in July, given there was gap in his stud career during an attempted comeback, plus the restraints of Covid lockdowns.
Jimmy said: “His first litter was bred by Liam O’Callaghan out of Rushmoor Tess, which was three dogs and four bitches. There have been some good quality bitches among them, the latest was Forest Kimberley. Quite a few of the local trainers in the North East. Paul Rutherford is having a litter, Stuart Ray has two bitches waiting to come into season, Kelly Macari has used him twice, Savva Roberts has a litter and Harry Williams has also promised to use him.
“Given what has happened in Ireland, I can see there being a shortage of dogs in nine months time and kennels are going to be looking for greyhounds.”
The number of 2020 British bred litters registered to date this year currently stands at 114. The fact that there are no Ice On Fire litters among them is entirely expected, given the nine week gestation period, plus three months before litters need to be registered.
Those 101 litters have resulted in 696 pups (318 dogs, 378 bitches) at an average of 6.10 pups per litter
