Any worries that racing will lose one of the best racing circuits in the country appear to have been dispelled by the documentation within the planning application for the ‘new Perry Barr’ being installed at Wolverhampton Racecourse.
As expected, planning permission was granted last week for the new greyhound operation at the Dunstall Park Racecourse which is roughly three miles from Monmore Green Stadium.
Due to copyright reasons, we are not able to publish the drawing for the stadium, though the link to the Council website suggests that the new circuit will be roughly 440m.
However, it is not clear how that exact measurement compares with the official 435m of the Perry Barr circuit, with that measurement being made, as per the Rules of Racing, some one metre from the inside rail. (The biggest circuit currently operating is Hove at 455m)
The drawings also show the location of the greyhound circuit in relation to the main grandstand.
Among the restrictions are the limitation on meetings to five per week, but to include Sundays or Bank Holiday meetings. However, owners ARC have indicated that the new venue will almost certainly race four times a week to include two evenings.
ARC have not revealed when their Perry Barr operation is likely to close though the site is subject to a planning application for housing.
