An impressive double for the Romford raiders saw Phil Simmonds move into third slot on Nottingham’s open race table for 2018.
The first leg came with an impressive victory for Courts Ad Darcey (Droopys Jet-Greenwell Mo, Jun 16) in a 500m puppy competition. Contesting just her fourth race, she clocked 29.58 (+60), a time bettered only once this year by the adult Salacres Vincent (29.55).
Kennelmate Droopys Dresden (Mall Brandy-Droopys Start, Feb 15) made a successful return to four bends to clock 28.30 (+70) for the 480 metres, a time only bettered by Newinn Shadow (28.11) this year.
It must surely seem a case of ‘every race being a bonus’ for a dog whose career showed so much promise. (He beat King Eden in 28.47 for Wimbledon’s 480m before breaking down in the 2016 Puppy Derby Final and losing seven months of his racing career).

Simmonds remains is now just two winners behind Jim Hayton who experienced a rare 0/3 on the night.
However Charlie Lister moved into second place with the year’s most prolific open race winner – Tyrur Hugo (Godsend-Tyrur Monica, Nov 14).
The blue picked up £500 when landing a 500m ‘Cat 3’ final in 29.95 (+60). It was his sixth win in 11 outings at Colwick Park this year.
