Perry Barr is currently operating without a general manager after Martin Fennings suffered a heart attack.

The popular Fennings is on the mend but will be on the easy list for a while.

Racing manager Martin Seal said: “Martin’s many friends and colleagues at the track wish him a speedy recovery.”

In another incident, trainer Pauline Spragg and her husband Ray were involved in a car accident on their return from holiday.

Seal added: “Both were badly shaken and Ray suffered minor injuries, but the Spraggs should be back fighting fit very shortly.”

 

 

Perry Barr has a new trainer in the shape of Sharon Hunt, who has relocated from Ireland.

Racing manager Martin Seal said: “Sharon and her partner Alan Brazier had decent success with their breeding, rearing and racing operation in Ireland, but are now based in Rothwell, near Kettering and have joined Perry Barr.

“Their Strides Cougar and Strides Leinster both look useful and will no doubt give the kennel plenty of fun in the coming months. We wish Sharon and Alan the best of fortune in their new venture. “

 

 

Louise Eccles is Perry Barr’s top trainer after the first three months of the year.

Eccles has racked up 56.5 winners, while Barry Denby has the best strike rate with an impressive 22.55%.

 

 

Ballymac Kite is currently the greyhound to beat in the top grades at Perry Barr.

Owned by Meek Greyhounds and trained by Jayne Meek, the May 13 whelp has won three of her last five A1 races and boasts a best time if 28.54sec.

Over 660 Notworthatanner is providing owner Mick Sims with some cheer after he broke his ankle after being clattered by a pup.

The Barry Denby trained runner landed a recent handicap from the scratch mark in a useful 40.52sec and is the track’s leading six bender.

 

There have been a few useful pups strutting their stuff in recent weeks at Perry Barr.

John Rigby’s Swift Francome, a July 2013 son of Godsend, has won his last two races including an A2 in 28.79sec.

Kennelmate Swift Risk, a July son of Kinloch Brae impressed in a recent A4 coming home seven lengths clear in 28.88sec.

Dave Hunt’s Sawpit Superb produced a strong running performance in top grade to win in 28.86sec.

While Ian Bradford’s Nippy Bolt has won two of his last three graded races clocking a best time of 28.98sec in A2.

Yet another talented youngster Highfire Hawk made light of an awkward trap five draw to land the A3 Owners’ Bonus Series Final in 29.06sec for the John Lambe kennel.
