Making Paper, described by Racing Manager Paul Mellor said: “The fastest dog in it on all known form” duly landed the £10,000 RPGTV Henlow Derby Final at a generous 4-1.
Diane Henry’s English Derby finalist had won only one of his seven previous races since going lame in the Dundalk International.
But the quality of that run – 27.16 fastest of the year – in the Henlow first round, was a clear testament to that ability.
When the traps opened though it was Express Master who took an expected early lead from Charity Buster with favourite Express Tosh and Making Paper close up.
The favourite Fire Height Tosh had missed his break but showed good early pace to challenge going into the third bend.
But it was Making Paper who forced his way through to take on the leader on the run-in and get home by a length in 27.56.
The winner is due to contest the forthcoming Betfred Eclipse at Nottingham.
