The elimination of fastest heat winner Making Paper and three qualifiers for Kevin Hutton were the main talking points of Henlow’s Maiden Gold Cup semi finals.
Diane Henry’s 2015 Derby finalist Paper went to traps at 1-2f in the last qualifier but he was badly hampered early. The race was totally dominated by Hazel Kemp’s 12-1 chance Master Kelly (Forest Master-Light Foot Dolly, Aug 14) who trapped clear and beat Forest Danny by almost nine lengths in 33.22.
Paper’s litter brother Thirteen Bags (Hondo Black-Quarterfield Hope, Nov 12) had landed the first qualifier when beating Tommys Lord by half a length in 33.34.
Fastest of the night was Hutton’s Willy Whitesocks (Droopys Scolari-Sparkling Maisie, Nov 13) who beat Newlawn Tom by four in 33.15 for the 550m.
