Oxford have delayed the closing date for their Saturday night opens until Wednesday.
Racing Manager Simon Pearson said: “We normally close them on a Tuesday for Friday, but with the opens being on Saturday this week, it will be Wednesday at Noon.”
Simon confirmed that there are planned opens over two, four, six and eight bends, including maidens, though with the removal of the troublesome ‘six bend boxes’ – after Saturday – there will be no more sprints or staying races until new traps are delivered.
He said: “We are due to have the Henlow traps here for that meeting which will then go back.”
The new ‘six bend boxes’ which will not be in place until the summer, will be the same model as the new 450 metre traps which have been well received.
Local trainer Brian King said: “There was the one void race due to a staff member removing a plug. There has been a lot said on the internet about the incident, suggesting that it was an excuse, but us locals know that that was the truth. It genuinely happened.
“There is nothing the matter with the new traps, in fact they are bloody good. We’ll be glad to see the back of the old ones though.”
