The Oxford Mail is reporting that the local council have appointed a senior employee to oversee the enforced purchase of Oxford Stadium.
The Cowley based stadium, which has been closed since 2012 continues to host a variety of smaller businesses, with strong local support for speedway racing. A planning application for houses was unanimously rejected by the local councillors with local MP Andrew Smith, who lives on the same estate, also a staunch supporter of retaining the site for the local community use.
At least one well known greyhound owner and businessman is also believed to be in discussion with the council with a view to returning greyhound racing to the stadium.
