Apparently badly drawn in trap six, the Charlie Lister trained runner went to boxes at 5-4f. But the railer showed his class in a race that went like this. .
The winner’s time was 28.26, the second fastest winner of the event (Mags Gamble – 28.20) and the winning distance was three and a quarter. It was trainer Charlie Lister OBE’s biggest win since Southern Messut in the 2014 Henlow Derby.
Heather Dimmock’s Kildallon Bolt (Barefoot Bolt-Kildallon Lee, Nov 14) had been beaten only twice in his previous eight races which included a second place in the Puppy Classic. He went unbeaten through to the final of the Northern Puppy Derby which unfolded like this. .
The winner’s time was 28.65 and the distance was three lengths.
Earlier on the supporting card, Greenhill Gem (Central City-Ballyhill Beauty) had won the Angel of the North with a 28.76 front running display . .
Rubys Rascal (Razldazl George-Swift Eva, Jul 14) went to traps for the 670m Great North Run final on the back of success in the Doncaster Leger and with seven wins in his last nine.
During that spell he had won by eight lengths, four lengths and six lengths, though this had a ‘just enough’ look about it after he took an early lead . . .
