David Mullins describes March On Freddie’s draw in Saturday’s BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby third round at Shelbourne as “okay, but still tough”.

The sole UK challenger left chasing the €125,000 first prize and greyhound immortality has his favoured trap six draw in the fourth of eight heats of Ireland’s famous Classic.

Happy enough with the widest slot, Mullins is nevertheless keeping his feet on the ground after a rollercoaster of emotions in Friday’s second round heat.

“He looked in trouble down the back but thankfully things opened up and his pace saw him through, but there were certainly some heartstopping moments!”

Mullins is back in the UK just now, with wife Julie remaining with record-breaking Puppy Classic winner March On Freddie at the Co. Tipperary base of his breeder Rachel Wheeler.

“Things still need doing over here of course,” added the Romford trainer. “We’ve got Freddie’s brother Brindle Bully running in the Sunderland heats on Friday, plus Romford runner all week!

“Thankfully, we’ve got a great team and are managing. It’s an busy time but you wouldn’t change it for the world. We’ve been well looked after at Shelbourne, given a good welcome when we’ve been there for trials and then the races.

“We’re all looking forward to Saturday.”

The full draw for the third round of the Boylesports Irish Derby third round was published in Tuesday round up earlier on today.
