Dolores Ruth’s runner, who scored in the opening round, was installed as the 4-5 favourite and led approaching the opening turn to beat Liscahane Royal by a length and a half in 29.05sec (-20).
Express Empire took the second qualifier for trainer Michael Dalton. The son of Droopys Scolari was led right until the line by Graham Holland’s Riverside Gold but swept past to score by a length in 29.12sec.
Holland had better luck with Ballydoyle Honey, who reversed heat form with Skywalker Glory in the last eliminator when coming late to deny his rival by half a length in 29.16sec.
Pat Guilfoyle’s Highview Craft led at the third turn in heat three to beat early leader Go Dex Go by five lengths in 29.59sec.
The semi-finals take place next Sunday.
Volcano, who took the Bookmakers Marathon over 1010 yards at Harolds Cross before Christmas was successful in the Open 790 heats last night.
