On what was a very tough night for Patrick Janssens Patrick saw his kennel star Skilful Sandie sustain a serious wrist injury in the Jay & Kay Coach Tours Kent St.Leger heats at Crayford.
The ante post favourite was ten lengths clear of the field approaching the last two bends of the 714m race when she pulled up sharply and was eventually beaten a distance.
Janssens said: “The first thing to say is that the track was in excellent condition and the injury was just one of those things has happens in racing. I don’t think it is a break, but it looks like severe ligament damage. We will keep icing it and will know more when the swelling is down.
“At this stage I would think it is 5-1 that she will ever race again. Having said that, Affleck Bolt appeared to sustain a serious injury and came back to be a top class stayer. You can never tell but you have to be realistic.”
Quickest on the night, and the likely new favourite is Peter Harnden’s Salacres Pippy with a 45.28 run.
