The broken remains of Nottingham punters littered Colwick Park again on Monday night with only one winning favourite from the eight opens. Added to last week’s results, the the final tally is 13-1 in the bookies favour.
It all must seem a bit bizarre to Gary Hodson, trainer of Danzey Exception (Kinloch Brae-Have On You, Jun 14). Last week the 28.45 Hall Green winner went to traps at 6-1 for the heats of a Nottingham 500m event and clocked the second fastest time of the year, 29.75 (+30). He was drawn four in this week’s £500 decider and went to traps at 4-1. . . .
His winning time was a new FOY – 29.69 (+20).
Punters would have had a little more excuse with The Other Reg (Razldazl Jayfkay-The Other Peach, Jul 15) in the £400 puppy final. The Pat Rosney trained youngster – one of his handler’s ‘dogs to follow in 2017’ had been beaten in his first two UK opens, the latter when unlucky in last week’s heats.
He went to trap three as the 5-2 second favourite with Dorotas Vic (T1) heading the market at 2-1f. Look out too for Reg’s kennelmate Swift Asbolos (T5 4-1). . . .
Reg’s winning time was 28.75 for the 480m
For the record, the sole winning favourite was Lowgate Mason (5-4f) in the heats of a sprint competition where he clocked 18.02 for the 305m. The other heats went to Laughing Gravy (9-4) in 18.20 and Geelo Gaga (3-1) in 17.99 (all +10)
