Nottingham will stage one category one races every month between August and November following the announcement that Mark Lowther’s MSCM Ltd will sponsor both the Lowther Stakes and the Eclipse.
The surprise announcement, which sees the Lowther Stakes switch from Towcester, will mean the bitch’s competition will be staged over 480m and be extended to 24 runners.
It gets underway on 27 August and concludes with a £10,000 first prize final on September 10.
The 500 metre Eclipse, which has lost its traditional sponsor Betfred – a casualty of the media rights issues – will continue as a 36 runner event in its traditional November slot.
Nottingham director Nathan Corden said: “We are extremely grateful to Mark Lowther and MSCM Ltd for choosing Nottingham as the venue for The Lowther Stakes as well as securing the Future of the Eclipse Stakes.
“We pride ourselves on delivering top quality racing and adding the Lowther Stakes to our schedule will enhance that already strong position.
“All the races throughout both competitions will be shown live on Racing Post Greyhound TV and the Racing Partnership.”
Mark Lowther says: I am delighted with the new partnership with Nottingham. The track is well run and has an excellent racing surface. I am looking forward to both The Lowther Stakes and the MSCM Ltd Eclipse Stakes attracting the great entries which both competitions deserve.”
The new additions add to an already impressive bill of fare at Colwick Park which commences with the Puppy Classic in August and the British Bred event in October.
+Patrons are reminded that Nottingham are offering a special deal for Monday’s RPGTV Select meeting on Monday. The £13 special includes admission, racecard and a three course meal.
