Nottingham spokesman Nathan Corden has confirmed that the winner’s prize for the 2020 Star Sports & ARC Greyhound Derby will be £50,000 to the winning owner.
The event has originally been drafted as subject to the track’s long established deduction policy of 15% automatically deducted for the trainer and 2% towards the track’s home finding charities. This year it would have seen the winning owner collect a cheque for £41,500.
Corden said: “It was Rachel’s (Corden – ARC Greyhound Operations Director) idea following the implementation of the Greyhound Retirement Scheme (which she also formulated), which meant that the re-homing requirements are now being financed in a different way. As a result, the entire prize money cheque goes to the owner.
“This doesn’t just relate to the Derby, but our other open and graded races. The owner gets the prize money, whatever arrangements exist between the owner and trainer are between them.”
