Towcester CEO Ackerman has asked to clear speculation currently circulating on social media which suggests the track have agreed a deal with Betfair on sponsorship of a new veterinary facility.
The implication of the rumour is that a deal would allow the exchange to cheaply abdicate their moral responsibility to the British Greyhound Racing Fund.
“It is simply untrue and with no basis of fact whatsoever” stated Ackerman.
“While we remain committed to greyhound welfare, that includes welfare beyond Towcester. At no point would we want to inhibit or undermine the GBGB negotiations with the bookmakers.
“I am a little puzzled as to how this story came about. It is perhaps a reflection on some of the cynicism and mistrust that seems to pervade the greyhound industry.”
