Dismay turned into pure joy for Doncaster trainer Peter Crosse at the Meadow Court Stadium on Saturday writes John Forbes.

With the track due to close for a couple of weeks for its post-Christmas break, Crosse stocked up the larder by taking the £500 cheque for winning the final of the A3 Owners’ Bonus series with Dismay and just to make it even sweeter he also picked up another £100 for the efforts of Swift Bann, who finished runner-up to his kennelmate, two lengths adrift.

Darren Hammond was also celebrating after the A2 Owner’s Bonus Series decider in which his Raise Your Glass prompted a few toasts from bookmakers as he ran out an 8-1 winner.

Swift Ranger is finishing the year in a fine vein of form at Sheffield. The Russ Warren-trained son of Makeshift completed a hat-trick in top grade at the South Yorkshire circuit on Saturday when he took an early lead and romped home five lengths clear of favourite Russanda Brax in 28.98, fastest of the day for the 500 metres.
