Newcastle have pushed back the closing date to Noon on Monday for their ARC Northern Puppy Derby.
Newcastle GM Ian Walton said: “We think a few trainers have trialled but have been caught out by the closing date, on a Friday. I can confirm that the competition will definitely take place; we are well on the way in terms of entries; and there is a reminder that there is no longer a requirement to trial.
“In my view, among the entries to date, there is nothing that stands head and shoulder above the opposition and it should prove a very open competition.”
The 36 runner competition starts next Thursday (February 2), and concludes a fortnight later. Prize money is a record £12,500 to the winner (from £10,000) with £1,000 for other finalists.
