Wimbledon will not close early unless there is a chronic runner shortage pledges stadium promoter Clive Feltham.
The track is officially due to go out of business on Saturday March 25 2017 but Feltham has promised that he will not call time early, despite the traditional poor trading period in the new year when the stadium is expected to lose money.
He said: “It wouldn’t be the first time (for that), but it won’t affect the decision. A few people have suggested that we will close, but we will see it through unless there is a dramatic runner shortage. So far, all the trainers have stuck by us including former trainers like Nora McEllistrim who continues to enter dogs for the open races. We also plan to keep the stock cars going, so provided we can manage two meetings per week, even with the occasional eight-race card, nothing will change.”
