~ GBGB hosts inaugural week to shine a light on the sport ~
~ All licensed tracks hold special Owners Bonus Series race ~
Today the Greyhound Board of Great Britain’s inaugural National Greyhound Week got underway with Owners Bonus Series races taking place at Suffolk Downs, Oxford and Monmore Green. Every licensed track will be holding an NGW-OBS race as part of the week which concludes on 3rd September.
The week is being held to shine a spotlight on licensed greyhound racing and to celebrate the many people – and greyhounds – involved in the sport. Many stadia are running special promotions and advertising campaigns to attract new and returning audiences whilst representatives from GBGB will be visiting as many tracks as possible talking to people about the sport.
The week also provides an opportunity to celebrate the sport’s heritage and through its social media channels GBGB will be showcasing memorable moments from the past 100 years and celebrating a number of local heroes including trainers, owners and stadia staff.
Scott Harvey, Racing Operations Executive at GBGB, said: “It’s fantastic to see National Greyhound Week get underway today. For nearly 100 years, greyhound racing has held a special place with the British public and it seems fitting to hold a week dedicated to celebrating the people and greyhounds involved.
“I am grateful to all stadia, owners and trainers for their support and I look forward to seeing some competitive races over the week. The tracks really have raised the bar in terms of their promotions and we hope to see more and more people enjoying this superb sport.
“We intend to build on our first NGW and make it an annual fixture in British greyhound racing. This is a great opportunity to unite and celebrate the sport and the potential for this event to evolve is exciting.”
