Trainer John Mullins believes that the decision of the Retired Greyhound Trust to drop ‘Retired’ from their title was a mistake.
He said: “Since we have been here, we have re-homed over 900 dogs, not just those through the Trust but also others that I have personally re-homed for other trainers.
“We get a lot of traffic drive past the kennels and always had a lot of enquiries with people just dropping in. Those numbers have really reduced since the name changed to ‘Greyhound Trust’ and when you talk to people they say ‘I had no idea that it was retired greyhounds, I thought it was just a racing kennel.’
“The other thing that surprises me is that they decided to build the new kennel. Why not buy an existing kennel and spend the money adapting it? And, as we have found out ourselves, you need somewhere which people will drive past.”
