At a time when it seems champions are beyond the pocket of the average owner, Move Over Cha proved otherwise when taking the final of the Ladbrokes Gold Cup at Monmore.

That is four wins in five UK outings for the August ’20 son of Gaytime Hawk and Move Over Eliza whose brief Irish career took place in an unraced stake at Clonmel. The final was a supporting event to the Produce Stakes and Newcastle Assistant Trainer Jimmy Wright thought he spotted some potential.

He said: “I watched the video and thought he was unlucky so I was going to ask Bobby Lindsay to see if the dog could be bought. By coincidence, I got a call the next day to say that the dog was for sale.

“He was with Rachel Wheeler, so I knew he would be well prepared, but I know the familiy and have a dog for her dad but asked Bobby Lindsay to do the deal. Rachel told me that the owner wanted £8,000, but Bobby managed to do the deal for £6,000 and he has turned out to be a bargain.

“As I expected, the dog arrived in perfect condition and I had no idea whether there was any improvement in him. But he seems to have learned every time he goes to the track so at this stage, I don’t know how much more there is to come. He is a good railer and the plan now is to take him for a trial to Sheffield and then think about the Steel City Cup.”

Cha is the latest success for the trio of owners that includes Bobby Lindsay, Fred Ellison and Tony Camsell. Their previous hounds include Levante Beach (Northern Puppy Derby) and Moanteen Mikey (All England Cup).

Jimmy said: “They all live in different parts of the country and have had various other dogs with us; Tony has been an owner in the kennel for 14 years. Over a period of time the guys got to know each other through racing and have become good friends. They will pay very good money for the right dog so to get one who more than pays back his purchase price in a single race is just a bonus.”
