THE Queen Mother Memorial Cup at Sheffield is overflowing following the news that the competition is being given a serious injection of additional prizemoney by sponsors Coors writes John Forbes.
The connections of last year’s winner Midway Nick picked up a cheque for £2,500 but the first past the post in this year’s final on Sunday, March 15 will earn £4,000.
“It’s a big winner for the track,” says General Manager Dave Perry. “Coors have backed this competition since 2011 and it is a big gesture from them to take the race back to its heyday between 2006 and 2008 when it was worth £4,000 to the winner.”
The Cup will be for 18 greyhounds with three qualifiers being run on Tuesday, March 10, from which the first two will go through to headline an all-open card on Sunday, March 15.
