Toolmaker Me Dad is rated a 4-5f to land next Saturday’s Ladbrokes Puppy Derby Final despite there only being nine spots between the three semi final winners.
Robert Gleeson’s runner, who enjoyed a virtual solo when landing the fastest first round heat, was led up by Troy Zico but rallied strongly to clock 28.37 (-10).
Betting 4-5f Toolmaker Me Dad, 10-3 Roman Empire, 5-1 Seaglass Tiger, 7-1 Droopys Cruiser, 8-1 Troy Zico, 50-1 Healthawn Heidi
Racing manager Tony Williamson said: “On the formbook, the two unbeaten runners Toolmaker Me Dad and Roman Empire have stood out. Looking at Toolmaker’s times, he has been consistent and just needs to repeat that to win the final.
“Troy Zico has to be the best drawn dog in the face and there was an enormous cheer when Droopys Cruiser drew the two. Given Mark and Patrick’s records for winning finals, you certainly couldn’t rule out either dog. ”
Monmore remind trainers that Saturday night’s supporting opens – over all distances and including a puppy event, are worth £500 to the winner.
Trainers are also reminded that the Lawrence Jones Memorial meeting (Winners £600, seconds £200) takes place two weeks later.
