Thousands of pounds will be raised to help retired greyhounds find their forever homes as Monmore Green hosts two special nights of racing this week.

Both Thursday and Saturday at Monmore have been dedicated to Greyhound Trust Wolverhampton, with trainers from the track sponsoring races on both evenings.

A total of £2,090 is set to be raised for the charity through 19 sponsored races – raising £110 each via trainers naming the race for £50 and owners sponsoring the six traps for £10 apiece.

It is the latest instalment of a long-running annual tradition at Monmore and been put together by Monmore Owners’ Association chairman Kieron Dawson.

“It will be a fantastic two nights worth of racing with so much money being raised for Greyhound Trust Wolverhampton, who undertake such excellent work,” said Dawson.

“Welfare is paramount to all stakeholders, and the Owners Association will support in organising such nights.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all owners and trainers that have supported in sponsoring races and traps.”

Each trainer at Monmore has sponsored at least one race, with each kennel set to parade a former racer before their respective sponsored race.

“All trainers and owners acknowledge the work that the Wolverhampton Greyhound Trust undertake, so this is the very least we can do,” added Dawson.

“Greyhounds make wonderful pets and it will be very pleasing to see so many former racers leading the parade.

“I’d like to thank the track and racing office for their support as we eagerly await Thursday and Saturday night.”
