There was a turn-up in the final of the BIF Produce Stakes over 525 yards at Clonmel on Sunday when the odds-on favourite Amazing Dude was beaten by Ballybough Mondo.
Graham Holland’s Amazing Dude, who had reached the final unbeaten and set a new track record in the second round, went to traps a 1-2 favourite with Ballybough Mondo, who won the other semi-final last week put in a 3-1 chance.
There was a lot of concern about Amazing Dude running from the dreaded trap one and it proved to be justified when he missed the kick.
Meanwhile Murt Leahy’s Ballybough Mondo had got away to a flyer and turned the opening bend clear.
Amazing Dude managed to get into second by halfway and was moving up strongly into the third turn but has the door slammed in his face and was shuffled back. This allowed Mondo to kick on again and he went on to beat the favourite by a length and a half in 28.55sec.
Ballybough Mondo is owned by Pat Carroll and was bred by Ballyragget based Emma Watters.
