Regency & Sussex Cup attract full entries – just

Hove’s £20K Premier Greyhound Racing Regency and £10K Coral Sussex Cup both managed full entries with the former looking a very open event. Both commence on Saturday.

Three of last year’s finalist, Lively Lauren, Bubbly Scorcher and Savana Heross are back for a second attempt Regency while the quickest dog over course and distance this year, Garfiney Blaze misses out with a toe injury.

While the Regency just got over the line with 36 runners, the Sussex Cup ended up with three reserves. Defending champ Candolim Monsoon shares top billing with likely favourite Droopys Clue. New Destiny will be seeking revenge on the Cahill runner who beat her in last year’s Juvenile Classic Final at Towcester.

Locals dominate Northern Flat

There is a heavy local flavour to Newcastle’s Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat which gets underway, supported by the ARC Angel of the North on Thursday.

27 of the 33 runners are locally trained with perhaps the most interesting being the Gymcrack winner Wicky Ned, fresh from his success at Towcester.

The bitch’s competition received the requisite number of entries – 36 – with Untold Ruble looking to add to her recent ARC Puppy Trophy success at Sunderland

Another Dazzling jumper

Old school hurdling trainers reckoned it took six months to produce a season hurdler. If they are correct, Razldazl Barkley looks to be the next big thing.

Back on December 15 2015, Ricky Holloway gave a novice hurdler his first official trial over hurdles at Crayford. He recorded a sensational 23.60 for the 380mH course. His name was Razldazl Raidio and he went on to become one of the greatest hurdlers of recent year. In his seventh race, Raidio set a new track record of 23.28.

On June 9, Razldazl Barkley had his first official trial over hurdles. It too was on the Crayford 380mH course and he clocked 23.38.

He made his debut in the opening round of Ladbrokes Champion Hurdle on Sunday and recorded 23.31. It was easily the quickest qualifer and he is drawn alongside litter brother Razldazl Randall as one of four Holloway runners in next Sunday’s semi finals.
