Georgia stepped up
The Three Steps To Victory competition is frequently used as a unique introduction to staying races and judging by the quality of Queen Georgia in the Time Greyhound Nutrition sponsored event, it won’t be her last six bend success.
Badly hampered in both heats and semis, connections were hoping to see Georgia’s true potential if she ever trapped in front. They didn’t have long to wait. She is the blue blur . .
How good was the run? Unsurprisingly, it was the fastest time over course and distance in 14 months. The quickest time last year was Darby Delight’s 38.42 on one of the very rare occasions that he trapped in front and on going rated at +30.
The previous five final winners were Distant Emma – 38.95 (+30), Coolavanny Aunty – 38.78 (+30), Savana Eruption – 39.13 (+30), Roxholme Kristof – 38.57 (+30), Bull Run Button – 39.09 (-20).
For Rab McNair, there was some satisfaction when a carefully laid plan came together.
It was also time for the Scotsman to reflect on a dramatic weekend focused around Towcester.
46 entries for Coronation Cup
The Coral Coronation Cup was oversubscribed by 10 runners as Romford Racing Manager chose ‘over’ rather than ‘under’ as the more workable problem.
He said: “We left the closing until after the first round of the Derby to make sure there were plenty of dogs available. So although I will have to disappoint some connections, for which I am sorry, at least we have a decent entry.
“We moved the event back from the start of the year as it gave us too long between Category One events and we have noticed how that negatively affects our regular Friday night entries.”
Glengar Martha heads the betting with AK Bets to clock the fastest second round sectional of the Star Sport & TRC Greyhound Derby. The Irish raider was quickest in the opening round with a 3.90 run and is currently trading at 8/1
