Belles descend on Brighton

The Coral Brighton Belle once again exceeded its required entry with 41 females entered for the Category One event.

Hove Racing Manager Rob Abrey said: “Considering it is a confined event and with the McNair and Wallis kennels potentially scaring a few off after some great performances on Saturday, the Belle continues to be a remarkably popular competition.”

The 36 runners are headed by Belinda Green’s defending champ Betsys Bullet.

Janssens Out – Heilbron In

Patrick Janssens has wkithdrawn from Premier Greyhound Racing Judgement Night at Hove on May 4 and been replaced Tom Heilbon who finished seventh in the 2023 Trainers Championship.

Rob Abrey said: “Patrick found himself short of ladies for the event and decided he couldn’t field at team. I called Tom and asked him if he would like to take the place, bearing in mind where he is based, and within half an hour, he was back confirming his entry which is great news for the event.”

Heilbron said: “It’s great to be involved to be involved after following the event for all these years. Had Bogger Rambo got a better run in the All England Cup we might have had enough points to be there in the six.

“We might have a few lacking in a look of the track depending on how other events play out but we will take our chance anyway.”

No cracks in Ned support

Despite a first round defeat, the sponsors Bresbet still have Wicky Ned as their 11/8 favourite to win the Gymcrack at Sheffield.

Here are the thoughts of Racing Manager Andrew Mascarenhas speaking to Star editor Floyd Amphlett.

Heat1   ♦   Heat2   ♦   Heat3   ♦   Heat 4   ♦  Heat5    ♦   Heat 6

Sheffield arguably already had the best website of any greyhound track. If you haven’t visited it recently, it is well worth a visit

Tom Heilbron’s The Other Donny was the quickest of Sunday’s potential KAB Maiden Derby entries with a 29.24 trial at Towcester. The quickest run on the day though was the 28.83 solo from Derby favourite King Memphis.
