The defeat of Scottish Derby winner Dorotas Woo Hoo was the major talking point at Nottingham on Monday night.

The Select Stakes sixth (4-9f) again showed signs of ring rust when caught up in early crowding. The congested 500m event went to Jim Hayton’s Lowgate Sirius (Windy Millar-Hawks Dutchess, Aug 14) in 29.97 for the 500m. The first four crossed the line within three quarters of a length with Woo Hoo a similar distance back in fifth.

Less of a shock was the seemingly inevitable Nottingham double for Dave Pruhs, his sixth of the year, and from just three runners.

Blakes Flyer (Godsend-Ballymac Razl, Apr 15) went to traps with a recent record of five wins and a second in his last eight races over the sprint course and improved on that with a 17.79 win.

His versatile kennelmate Pollys Pim (Mall Brandy-Maggies Whistle, Nov 14) completed the 7-1 double. The bitch with recent victories between 483-692m covered the 500 metre course in 29.75 (+30), her sixth win in her last nine outings.

The meeting also featured a fascinating short priced puppy double for Kevin Hutton in the heats of a maiden standard.

Bit View Knight (Kinloch Brae-Native Gypsy, Nov 15) looks a ‘double underline’ in everyone’s notebook after a superb UK debut. The Irish import’s card shows just one line of trial form, a 17.65 (-10) sprint trial at Thurles (for those unfamilar with Thurles form, the fastest race time this year is 17.59). He clocked 29.96 in his final Notts 500m qualifying trial and went to trap one as the 1-2f . . .

The winner’s time was 29.82 (+40) -some debut – and the winning distance was three and a quarter.

The form was franked by Madabout Maggie (Kinloch Brae-Swift Rush, Sep 15). The 28.31 (480) Towcester winner had been comfortably beaten by Knight in two Nottingham trials, but went to the red box and the 4-6f and did this. . .

Maggie’s winning time was 29.87 (+40) and the winning distance, three lengths.

Pinpoint Mo (Premier Fantasy-Run Shadow Run, Aug 14) was the star of a Kelly Macari double when breaking the sprint track record at Doncaster on Monday.

Already the fastest of the year over the 275m course, the evens favourite took 12 spots off Glendon Jack’s previous best with an easy 16.51 victory.

As the previous week, Mo was followed onto the rostrum by dual Cat 1 winner Pinpoint Boom (Shaneboy Lee-Newmarket Way, Jul 13) who was returned at 4-9f when landing the 483m open by just under four lengths in 29.41 (+10). It was Boom’s sixth consecutive open race victory.
