There was a Kevin Hutton 1-2 in the Maiden Standard Final at NOTTINGHAM on Monday, though not necessarily in the order anticipated by the punters.

In last week’s heats, Bit View Knight made a sensational debut clocking 29.81 (500) in the first race of his career. The other qualifier went to kennelmate Madabout Maggie (Kinloch Brae-Swift Rush, Sep 15) in 29.87 in her fourth career outing. Knight (1-1f) went from white in the final, Maggie was second in the market (6-4) but it was the latter who came out of top after popping away if front and leading all the way. She crossed the winning line in 30.01 (+30) with Knight almost three lengths back in second.

Supporting the final will be two Elaine Parker trained trialstake winners for the GMG Puppy Classic, also over 500m. Russanda Ripley (Candlelight King-Droopys Knox, Dec 15) who already has 12 races on his card and won for the sixth time in 29.98 (+30). Kennelmate Swithins Beans (Head Bound-Full Of Beans, Nov 15) landed the dupliated event in 30.35.

There was also a fine racing debut for Azzurri Torpedo (Ballymac Vic-Sporting Dame, Dec 15). The litter brother to Coral Puppy Trophy winner Sporting Dave clocked a very respectable 17.84 (-20) for the 305m.

A number of Puppy Classic probables trialled before racing of which the quickest was 28.57 Waterford winner Kalamoun with a 30.01 run, with another Irish import Ballydoyle Maura clocking 30.07. Wildfire Blossom went the quickest of Paul Young’s sextet in 30.06 (all +30).

The GMG Puppy Classic closes at 11am tomorrow Thursday August 10.

 

At DONCASTER Freedom Knight (Tyrur Big Mike-Noel Named Holly, Jan 16) continued his fantastic progress with victory number three from five outings (with two seconds). Paul Prior’s black, who, last week became the first 2016 whelp to win an open in Britain, clocked a personal best of 29.57 for the 483m.
