Sheffield trainer Ted Brennan is pictured with – we believe – possibly the most under rated dog ever to race in Britain. While history records that his two litter brothers were to finish 1-2 in the English Derby, this fawn’s life story is incredible in its own right. He escaped while being schooled and spent nine months living wild on the Yorkshire Moors. He was eventually captured by a gypsy and returned to his owner. He then embarked on an incredible career which included victories in the St.Leger, Scottish Leger, Stewards Cup, Gold Cup, Cock O’The North, and Embassy Cup. He held six bend track records at Monmore and Powderhall. At five years old, and running off scratch at Sheffield, he made his final open race excursion to land the Veteran Stayers Championship at Wimbledon. If you don’t know his name, maybe you should do!
