Dean Childs has expressed his profound sorrow following the death of his long time friend and owner Mitch Millward on Wednesday night.
Dean said: “Mitch had an operation for his liver cancer and appeared to come out of it okay, but complications developed and he needed a second operation. Apparently that was when he started to lose the battle.
“He knew that the operation was a gamble, but it was a gamble he was prepared to take. It is terribly sad for Mitch and his fiancé Nicola. He had put off the wedding earlier in the year because of the illness but was always hopeful of beating it.
“In fact he said he wouldn’t get to see (Millwards) Teddy in the first round of the St.Leger but planned to watch him in the later rounds. That dog brought him so much joy.
“Mitch was a great friend of more than ten years. We went to football together, we are both Arsenal fans, and we also drank together. I am still very shocked.”
