A great supporter of Monmore and all-round greyhound enthusiast sadly passed away on Wednesday 18th May.
Mike Kelly was a loyal owner to firstly Peter Billingham and then Kim Billingham a regular at the track and at the kennels treating owners on Sundays to a collection of sandwiches and pies he would be very welcome.
Mike was a regular open race follower and visitor to the Irish tracks especially Shelbourne Park. He did hold a trainers licence but left the training to Peter and Kim for his dogs at Monmore. They included: General Legend 129 runs and 23 wins, Hometown Hero 129 runs 23 wins two of the most recent who both raced in the family business name Keltruck Scania.
Mike was a senior prison governor during his working career for over 30 years. He was a regular writer in local and national papers and had also applied to become the GBGB trainers Representative unfortunately unsuccessful. But I’m sure had he been given the role he would have been a great asset with his passion and knowledge of the sport he loved.
Mike will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends at Monmore.
