Henlow racing Paul Mellor is back in harness after a fortnight off following an eye operation.
He said: “It made a nice break and I came back fully revved up but then I saw how bare the grading board was I wanted to go home again.”
Holidays have traditionally cut deep into the summer racing strength though Saturday’s 28-runner card was hopefully the low point; there is certainly plenty going on in the coming weeks.
Wednesday lunchtime is the deadline for the Maiden Derby which gets underway on Sunday and concludes two weeks later. The £10,000 RPGTV Henlow Derby gets underway on Thursday October 13 and concludes on Sunday October 30.
