Doncaster hosted what will surely go down as a unique meeting on Sunday when no less than four runners celebrated passing racing landmarks including a rare double century.

The star of the show was Golden Oldie Megs Berry (Definate Opinion-Pegswood Girl, Nov 15) who celebrated her 200th race, which she won, and was instantly retired.

The 30 kilo black made her Doncaster debut in September 2017 rising to the giddy heights of winning A3 before being switched from 483m to 450m around 18 months ago. Her best run over the shorter trip was 28.46 and she bowed out in a calculated 29.04.

Trainer Ricky Overton said: “She has been a terrific bitch all the way through. She is as honest as they come, no faults at all. But after 200 races I thought it was time she ended up on a sofa.

“She is quite a big bitch, over 30 kilos, quite strong, and that might have helped her career, though I would like to think that being well looked after would have played a part too.

“I had a litter sister, A Definite Berry, who had 174 races and was running well until a dog landed on her at the pick up and broke her hock. But we homed her without a problem. We are looking for a home for Meg if anyone is interested.”

The three other landmark races were the century makers. Meg’s kennelmate Seans Hulk is five this month and was contesting D3. Debbie Calvert’s Smurfing Master (Jun ’17) was third in an A3 and Sue Watson’s Kilara Bugle (Apr 17) remains one of the best dogs at the track and was beaten favourite in A2.
