Pinpoint Maxi came through a successful operation on Monday and will hopefully be back home by later today.
Trainer Kelly Macari said: “I don’t know all the details, I actually went to the vets this morning but they were busy. I understand that they might be fitting two metal rods in his leg and that they were pleased with the operation.
“When the injury first occurred, I saw him spinning around on the track and I feared he had broken his back so it was a relief when they managed to pick him up.
“I still feared the worst, I haven’t been in that position before. But when we were in the paddock Pat Rosney came up to me and said, ‘Don’t give up. I’ve had one with a broken front leg before. They operated and he was fine.’
“I remember the paddock was completely silent, but the atmosphere in the whole stadium changed completely after the accident. Some of my owners were saying that that everything became very subdued. It was upsetting, but nobody was to blame, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“We are obviously waiting to see how Maxi behaves when he gets home. He can be a bit of a handful at the best of times but it will be great just to see him.”
