Coxgereen Max, who was the star of Kinsley’s Track Championship team last year with three wins from three starts, returned from three months on the sidelines at Kinsley on Saturday in a style that did his owner-trainer Brian Lomax proud.

Having his first run since being eliminated from the National Sprint at Nottingham in mid-December, the October 2012 son of Head Bound and Scarty Sheila cashed in on his trademark flying start to make all and win by two and a half lengths in a very respectable 16.37 for the 268 metres and his trainer already has a target in mind for him.

He says: “His is a really good dog, but he is big, around the 36-kilo mark, and it is not always easy to get him in the boxes! I left him off over the winter as I believe that when a dog has a lot of races you sometimes don’t see what little knocks they pick up along the way and it can be better to give them a good break and come back fresh. There is a sprint competition starting at Kinsley on April 12 with £600 on offer for two runs, so I think we will have a go at that.”
