Cable Bay was a shock 6-1 winner of the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial Trophy over 525 yards at Limerick on Saturday
Brendan Matthews’ runner made his best start of the competition in third place behind Robert Gleeson’s Droopys Braedon who had a length and half lead by the first turn, and Graham Holland’s Rural Hawaii, who was handily placed on the outside.
Rural Hawaii started to challenge the leader from the halfway mark and they were joined by Cable Bay at the third turn.
Droopys Braedon dropped at this point and Rural Hawaii and Cable Bay were locked together around the last two bends before Cable Bay went on to score by two lengths in 28.11sec the fastest time in the event.
Cable Bay is a litter brother to Hoodwinked, who was renamed Boylesports Jet, and went quickest in the first round.
This was his second win in seven races brought about by easily his best start in the competition.
The form looks rock solid as Cox Cup winner Redwood Mick made all in the following race over 550 yards to record 29.59sec.
