Quickest in the heats of the 277m competition was the locally bred track record holder Quagos Jack with a 16.19 run beating Quarteira. Litter sister Quagos Peggy was just five spots slower when completing the double for Kevin Quinton.
Marathon star Burgess Hannah was back over six bends to take the opening heat of the Derby Purse in 41.02. Locally trained Aayamza Sydney clocked the quickest of the three qualifiers with a 40.93 run while the sponsors also had one through to the final with Ballymac Johnjo landing the final qualifier.
