Millwards Master turned back the clock to land the Coral Coronation Cup.
Paul Young’s black, back from a broken hock, unexpectedly flashed out in front and was pursued on the inside by Patchys Kerry who was backed into 2-1 favouritism. The 10-1 chance led into the bend and moved towards the rail with Kerry dropping in behind. Mark Wallis’ favourite found herself on the outside of the leader and attempted to cut up his inside as they crossed the wining line with a circuit to go.
But Kerry’s determination to ‘undertake’ at the third was thwarted as Master moved across, a tactic that ended in similar results as she challenged again at the fifth bend. Once in front though, Master was always going to take some pegging back and he held on by a length and a half in 34.81. It was the fastest time of his career, along with his fastest ever sectional (13.57).
